Big stacks, long rolls and flailing limbs!

The view from our accommodation this morning
Today we had our first experience with real snow! We were on the bus by 7.30am for our journey up to beautiful Mt Hutt. Some great conditions to learn in today with the sun helping to create some slushy snow that we could fall over in! We were fitted out with our boots, boards and skis and hit the slopes for our first lessons at 9am. It took patience for some students to learn the basics before they could even begin tackling any sort of incline on the mountain. Su seemed to think that skiing involved ‘tackling’ other people on the slopes rather than carving up the slopes themselves. The patience paid off and our ‘Snow Bunnies’ were up on the lifts or the ‘Magic Carpet’ in no time. Sanjee’s exit strategy off the lift was creative and imaginative but it got a 0 out of 10 for execution. Lots of stacks, rolls and flailing limbs today but everyone persevered through the pain and frustration. Shelby copped the first injury due to her inability to stop before she collided with another boarder. Things definitely began to ‘click’ after lunch for everyone and there were less uncoordinated TGS students on the mountain. It was so wonderful to see students excited by the end of the day saying that they were finally ‘getting it’. Seeing resilience in all our students today was one of the best things about the day. We are looking forward to seeing more patience, perseverance and resilience tomorrow (and less stacks, rolls and flailing limbs)!
Snow Angel!

Quote of the day

Observing the big orange security fence at the end of the slope (that people could potentially ski into)

RubyIs that fence an electric fence?
